CEO update: How COVID-19 is impacting telecommunications in affected countries

At Spearline, we continue to monitor the ongoing COVID-19 situation and its impact on global telecommunications.

Affected countries have now begun to significantly restrict the movement of individuals, imposing travel freezes and implementing work-from-home (WfH) arrangements. This has led to a high increase in demand for both video and audio calls, and has caused a strain on telecommunications networks across afflicted regions and countries.

We are closely monitoring those countries that have been most impacted.

Italy's connection rate continues to be volatile with as much as a 10% failure rate. Audio quality is running approximately 4% off normal levels.

Spain has seen a notable drop in connection rates to a 98.5% success on March 16, 2020 but it is improving again. A mild variation noted with audio quality (+/- 1%), but relatively stable.

France saw a significant dip in connection rates, approaching 5%, with failures noted on March 17, 2020. Good quality maintained, though periodic slippage has been observed.

In Germany, a declining connection rate is showing, with 1.7% failures noted on March 17, 2020. Good quality has been maintained, though periodic slippage is showing.

Other countries affected by the COVID-19 that are showing signs of connection failures and audio quality degradation are included in the table below.

Spearline has business continuity plans in place that will ensure we continue to monitor phone lines and test numbers for our multinational customers.

We are maintaining the quality and consistency of our work, even in areas that are affected by the outbreak. We are closely monitoring the situation and can report that COVID-19 has thus far had no impact on our production.

We are implementing appropriate measures in the best interests of our customers and employees. We have implemented a travel freeze, we have moved to a WfH model in all functional areas, and we are leveraging collaboration technologies fully to support customer engagement and team interaction.
